Financial Tools to Prepare Students

April is financial literacy month and this year we are excited to offer even more resources and opportunities than last year!

Once again, we are participating in the Teach Children to Save program. New this year, we will be participating in EVERFI’S Financial Bee.

Read more below for more information on both programs and the financial tools we are offering.

Teach Children to Save

Saving is a great habit and a powerful tool to develop at a young age. Saving helps teach discipline and goal setting which are important life-long habits.

How can I teach my child/student about saving?

  • Use a piggy bank or jar to start saving money what they are saving for.
  • Take a trip to your bank or credit union with them to make a deposit.
  • Talk to them about why you put money in your account.
  • Use every day experiences, such as grocery shopping, traveling or paying bills to talk about money and saving.
  • Anytime is the right time to teach children about saving money.

EVERFI Financial Literacy Bee and College Scholarship

From unemployment to career shifts to a reduction in income, Prevail Bank with the EVERFI Financial Literacy Bee provides an opportunity for students to learn the critical importance of saving and budgeting for short-term and long-term financial goals.

The virtual challenge features four short digital lessons followed by a capstone essay contest in which students share a short-term or long-term savings goal and outline their plan to achieve that goal.  Winners of the EVERFI Financial Literacy Bee will receive a total of $20,000 in college scholarships.

The Financial Literacy Bee is designed for high school students in grades 9-12 and will be available from April 1st through April 15, 2021. The scholarship essay contest is open to all students ages 13-18.

By competing in the challenge, participating students will gain new skills to create a personalized financial decision-making framework that they can apply to their lives now and in the future.

Topics include how to save, set financial goals, budget, and invest.
