Steph Schmid’s business name, Wisco Branding, proudly reflects both local heritage and her commitment to amplifying genuine brand voices for sustainable growth.
Before starting Wisco Branding, Steph Schmid worked in radio as a digital marketing consultant, gaining experience in scriptwriting and commercial production. Recognizing she could better serve customers with personalized and flexible solutions, she dove into entrepreneurship and launched Wisco Branding. Steph’s formal education combined with experience as the Director of Marketing at the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce played a role in her journey to serve Wisconsin small businesses as well.
While serving as an ambassador at the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce, Steph met Julie Siegler, Mortgage Lending Officer at Prevail Bank. They struck up a friendship, so it was natural that when Steph decided to dive into starting her own business, she reached out to someone she trusted. Julie introduced Steph to the Prevail business lending team where she found solid guidance.
Steph explains, “When I first met with Prevail Bank, I was expecting a standard banking experience – forms, signatures, maybe a free pen. But instead, I got something much better: real conversation, practical advice, and genuine encouragement.”
“When I was just starting Wisco Branding, I wasn’t sure if I needed to pursue a business loan. I sat down with one of their team members for an insightful conversation that helped me think through my options. And when it came time to officially open my business account, the process was so easy and smooth that I celebrated with a latte afterwards!”
Like any business owner will tell you, entrepreneurship comes with its own challenges. Steph has been fortunate to find support throughout her marketing career from like-minded professionals who collaborate on projects, offer advice, and serve as mentors. She’s learned to lean into what she does best. Her boots-on-the-ground approach to marketing has proven successful, as she shows up in person to capture the authentic moments that make each business special.
Her advice to any aspiring entrepreneur: “Surround yourself with a strong network of growth-minded friends, mentors, advisors, and power partners – people who challenge you, inspire you, and genuinely want to see you succeed. Entrepreneurship can feel isolating at times, but having a trusted circle to lean on makes all the difference.”
Looking ahead, Steph aims to expand her reach across Wisconsin, prioritizing what’s best for each locally owned business and their unique marketing strategy—leveraging social media marketing, video content creation, website design, and a strong online presence.
